Arabian Gulf University







The idea to build the Arabian Gulf University was based on the belief in the importance of university and higher level education in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) society. This would be the start of satisfying the needs of GCC countries in terms of specialists and experts in various occupational fields connected to society.

After studying the cultural, social, and economic situation in the GCC region, the challenges it faces, the shared historical background was also examined. It was found that united aspirations towards a brighter future, one of which was to create a melded co-existence, of mentality and of advancement in knowledge for members of the society at large to promote the area and growth in its various sectors.

With this in mind, the General Convention of Arab Education for the GCC at its fourth meeting was held in Bahrain on the 4th of Jumada al-Oola, 1399 A.H, corresponding to the 3rd and 4th of April, 1979, the convention and it was decided to establish the Arabian Gulf University to be located in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity is a national cultural Foundation that is honored to be presided over by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques who supervises it directly ​and continuously.
“Let us each play a part and assume responsibility with regards to the initiation of this foundation, which does not exclude anyone, but rather constitutes a partnership involving all of us, we the citizens, without exception.”
With these words, the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Founder of the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity -May Allah have mercy on him - described the nature of this Foundation, its goals of encouraging gifted youth and the development of their talents.

Providing quality education is an objective that presents an ongoing challenge for educational systems, especially with a close association with philosophical fundamentals, sustainable development plans and global competitiveness. It is a requirement and a necessity for realizing a bright future for both coming generations and homelands, as per contemporary progress, technical development input, media of public communication and diversity of knowledge sources. He pays special attention to education as an engine for human activity, from the functions of which is to maintain balance, harmonize the high humanitarian values system and a taking a free go towards knowledge, science and human evolution.
